BUILDING YOUR HOME

THE FOUNDATION

Excavation and soil inspection complete, the process moves to pouring of the foundation and stemwalls. The floor joists and walls will rest on the stemwalls, which rest on the foundation.

Pouring the foundation

The foundation footings poured, stemwalls are next. The forms are seen in the foreground.

Pouring the stemwalls

Concrete pours into the forms for the stemwalls.

Forms for the front steps

The concrete is only partially poured in the forms for the front steps.

Garage slabs

The garage floor has been poured. This home has a double car garage on the right and an oversized one car "swing" garage on the left. The owners plan on using the swing garage for an exercise and hobby room.

Checking the garage floor

New owner, checking the slope of the garage floor. A soft water outlet will be located in the garage for washing the car. (Does anyone still wash their own car? These owners assure the builder that they will wash their own car!) Soft water will be available throughout the house, while all external faucets and landscape water will be plumbed with city water.

Expansion joints in the garage floor

Expansion joints are "cut" into the garage slab. The normal process of troweling a ridge is not as effective in controling expansion.
